Your home is what I have always dreamed of...wood everywhere! It's so calming, comforting and inviting. Maybe someday.... :0)

beautiful photos shelley. what i love about maple is that it seems to glow from inside. my hubby's mom grew up in an old house in illinois and her bedroom was panelled with bird's eye maple. she talked about it for years and then he made her a writing desk out of bird's eye maple to have a tangible memory at her fingertips. i'm so glad that you have a woodworker-hubby in your home too so you can special order your dream pieces.

Your home is just beautiful. Pure Waldorf. Contemporary Waldorf. Exciting Waldorf. Your style and way seem to be inspired by the same spirit like Berlin's young Waldorf movement. It is interesting to see the "faces" of American Waldorf.

Shelley, what did your husband seal the maple highchair with? We put in maple butcher block countertops this spring, and so far I'm disappointed with them. I wanted them for sooo long, but they are not sealing well with the beewax/mineral oil sealer we got, and some spots are staining. I need something that will bring out the beauty in the wood. I don't care if I can't cut on them afterward. Can you see what hubby says? Thanks so much!! Melissa

I am in awe at the beauty of these pieces, I would be staring at them all day!! Your husband is very talented, what heirlooms to pass down generation to generation.

thanks, everyone!

birdie - what a lovely story! i also feel this very way about maple. and yes, i am a lucky girl. :)

maria - this is a wonderful complement. thank you. i think we are kindred spirits, even though far away from each other!

melissa - we sealed the highchair with a mixture of beeswax and linseed oil and it's true, there is some staining that has happened...but not too much so i am happy with it. i actually love the 'used' look that it began to have as soon as we started using it. :)
