waldorf home...

well i've really been enjoying taking pictures of some of the things around our home lately. setting forth in mindfulness to see the simple beauty in many of the things we play with and enjoy each day. so i was inspired to start a new flickr group this morning, which i have named 'waldorf home'. a place to share photos of the places, spaces and things with which we choose to surround ourselves. i've invited a lot of my flickr friends to join in the fun. so by all means, if you are on flickr and have any photos you'd like to add of your 'waldorf home'...please feel free to join us

on that note, here are a few more photos from around our home...

around our home...

here are some photos of a few of the things around our home (which i'm going to include in my new 'around our home' set on flickr). :-) little things that may be tucked away on a shelf and then brought out at just the right moment. or put in a windowsill in a beautiful handcrafted frame. special things that bring beauty into our home and our lives. the very things i know my children will remember and cherish as they get older. and taking photos like this gives me pause to appreciate all of these little things. anyone else want to share some pictures of the things around your home?

this one was taken by my new friend, natasha, over at tasha jean photography. isn't she just amazing? and she has also graciously allowed me to use this beautiful photo for promoting my hats. many thanks, tasha!

baby hat photos...

sarah over at uniquely you photo has graciously allowed me to use a couple of her beautiful photos showing off two of my hats (which she had purchased earlier). aren't these photos just amazing? what a gift she has...

i offered to send her a couple of more silk hats - one in natural creme and one in rosy pink - if she could take some additional pictures for me during one of her newborn sessions...and she has agreed! lucky me.  :)

me :: monday

okay, i'm putting myself to the challenge. a week of self portraits. now this is small potatoes compared to what erin, over at bluebirdbaby, is doing (365 days - amazing). but a challenge to myself, nonetheless. so here we go with day 1 :: monday...

i've been getting back into the rhythm of reading all of my favorite blogs again. and i'm finding it very interesting that several people are challenging themselves to self-portraits. looking to see the beauty in themselves. introspective. a good exercise, definitely. i think we, as women (particularly in our western culture)...are so often critical of ourselves. and to move into that positive space where we can truly see our own beauty is so very important.

me...

hi everyone.  well, i've finally finished 3 posts that i've had in the edit stage for almost a month now. ahh, this feels good. getting caught up. being creative again. finishing things that i've started. very important to me.

and i'm getting back into a good rhythm in our days and plan to post more regularly again. we've been working on an earlier bedtime routine at night and it's been easier than i anticipated. and i'm really enjoying my creative time. i even ventured into taking a series of self-portraits the other day (inspired by my friend, erin, over at bluebirdbaby)...

so here's looking at you.  :)

new camera lens...

well, i got a new camera lens and i just love it. it's a 50mm portrait lens and i'm just learning how to use it. what fun. here's the very first picture i took with it. my yogurt girl...

i've been so inspired by the many amazing and beautiful photos of my friends here in blogdom, that i really wanted to try to improve my own pictures. erin over at bluebirdbaby graciously shared some of her guidance and tips with me, since we discovered we use the same kind of camera (nikon D70). and she was the one who encouraged me to purchase this 50mm lens. and i'm so happy i did. thank you, erin! i've got a lot to learn and it will take a great deal of practice, but what fun this is going to be.

silk hats...

here are a couple of new custom silk hats i recently finished. perfect for spring...

i can not tell you how much i love knitting these little pilot caps in silk. it is definitely my yarn of choice for spring. and for newborns. maybe that's because i live in texas and most of the year round it is warm here (silk can really help keep your little one cool). or maybe it's the comforting and soothing feeling i always had of putting a silk hat like these on my own baby (maya wore her silk caps constantly until she was about 2 years old). oh what a luxuriously soft and delicate yarn to put on a newborn! not to mention the benefits of warmth and temperature control this fantastic fiber has to offer.

these two hats above belong to sarah over at uniquely you photography. she's an amazing and truly gifted photographer.  she had purchased a hat from my etsy shop previously and took this incredibly beautiful photo of a newborn babe wearing it! and so she wanted a few more. it was such a pleasure knitting these for her.

easter's on it's way...

yes, easter is just around the corner. so i've just listed another batch of felted easter eggs in my waldorfmama shop...

with a close-up of a favorite. these have been popular, so i was happy to felt up some more. i really prefer these eggs to the more commercial alternative. maya's favorite part is hunting for the eggs. she loves finding them all and then we hide them again. i've made us our own large batch this year, so she will have loads of fun.

and along with that, here is my 'green' picture for the day. oh how i love yarn...

shelley
