special knitting...

i've been working rather quickly on a special little knitting project these last few days and wanted to share it with you here...

this little red doll sweater (lovingly modeled by our own penny), and the pattern i created for it, were by special request - and are going to be featured in the winter issue of living crafts. now if you don't know about living crafts, it's a beautiful new magazine (almost a year old) that is published quarterly...and it is nothing short of wonderful. very waldorf-inspired, with lovely crafty projects and ideas and an abundance of inspiration. i've been working closely with pardis, the creator and editor of the magazine, to get this project completed and photographed...and it has been a joy to work with her and so much fun.

lucky for me, she will also be featuring my felted christmas ornaments in the 'good finds' section of the same winter issue, with information on where to purchase...

now all i have to do is get busy and fill up my waldorfmama shop with doll sweaters and christmas ornaments! wish me luck. and if you don't already subscribe, be sure to pick up your copy of living crafts in mid-november (available at most major craft stores - like joann's, etc)!

yours in lots of knitting and felting,

shelley

Congratulation, Shelley. I am glad for you that you are going to publish a pattern in a magazin. The sweater is lovely and inspires me to make something similar for my autumn and winter dolls.

The magazin looks interesting. I am not sure if I will get in Germany. Probably not. But it would be a good idea to make such a waldorf inspired magazin here. I will keep it in my mind.

The ornaments for christmas are they completely felted or did you use a billet (is it the right English word) from styrofoam and felted around with the needle?

Have a nice day, Maria

I'm looking forward to the pattern. I am not a big fan of sewing doll clothes, but knitting them is another story! My daughter is making similar felted balls to sell this winter at our fair.

Dear Shelley,
I'm so happy that I found your blog. It's a pleasure to see your craft.

Love from Germany
M.

P.S.: I found some handcarved wooden frames :))

waldorfmama said...

maria - for the felted ornaments, i use only wool - no 'billet'. :)

maike - oh, that is great. where did you find the frames in germany? now i am curious! :)

how super exciting that you're going to be published! good for you. berrie's crown article/cover feature pushed me over the edge last month, into being a new subscriber. it's a gem of a magazine and i look forward to seeing you featured.

the sweater couldn't be any sweeter -- when do you expect some in your shop? i want one!

Oh, I absolutely love that magazine Shelley (I have had a subscription from the premier issue) and I am so excited to know that something of yours will be featured in it. I can't wait to see your adorable little doll sweater and beautiful christmas ornaments in the winter issue.
Congratulations!

Wow, how exciting! Now I can't wait to get the next issue! We definitely have some dolls around here that are in need of winter sweaters :)

Congrats!

I found them at: http://www.artificia-nova.de/

That's an online-shop where you can buy Waldorf things. Very very nice. The problem with the site you mentioned is that they don't ship overseas. Like so many online shops. :-(

Love & light

Wonderful Shelley! I have long wanted to write articles and get craft ideas published, but alas the time just isn't ripe for me yet I suppose.
I had no idea Living Crafts was available at mainstream stores! Do you have any back issues you'd be willing to pass on?

You can still get past issues at:
http://www.livingcrafts.com

I'too' have been enjoying this mag since it's 1st issue. It is my favorite magazine published!

thanks again, everyone!

jane - i should have some doll sweaters in my waldorfmama shop next week! :) or you can pre-order one, if you like - just email me or convo me on etsy. :)

sunset - nicole is right, back issues (there are only 3 + the current issue) can be purchased on the livingcrafts.com website. i only have one copy of each, so they are pretty near and dear to my heart. :) but i plan on getting a stack of the winter issue, just to commemorate the occasion. :)

nicole - thanks. :) yes, it's my favorite magazine, too!

Shelley, I love your blog and can't wait to see your work in Living Crafts...I am just learning to knit, so it may be a while before I can knit a doll sweater!...You will have to put some in your shop just for people like me :-)
